Cultural Heritage Demo Site
- Crete, Greece
Overview
Crete is a vibrant cultural mosaic, shaped by the legacies of Minoan, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman civilizations. This rich heritage is deeply embedded in the island’s modern identity and provides a unique setting for exploring innovative approaches to cultural heritage preservation and sustainability.
Within HI-EURECA-PRO, Crete serves as a living lab for cultural heritage, bringing together research excellence, innovation and collaboration to support the green and digital transformation of the heritage sector. The Cultural Heritage Demo Site provides a real-world environment for exploring and implementing sustainable practices, materials, green energy approaches and smart tools for cultural heritage preservation.
Led by the Technical University of Crete (TUC), the Demo Site brings together researchers, public authorities, cultural and heritage organisations, businesses and local communities. This collaboration strengthens the links between research, skills, innovation and local needs, creating pathways for knowledge and solutions to move from research into practice and generating experience that can be transferred to similar Mediterranean regions and beyond.
