About the webinar
On 30 October 2026, the University of Petroșani will organise the online webinar “From Activism to the Mining Heritage Regeneration Programme”, as part of the HI-EURECA-PRO project.
The webinar will explore the evolution of mining heritage regeneration in Romania’s Jiu Valley, from early civic activism and community-driven initiatives to structured regeneration programmes aimed at supporting sustainable regional development.
Bringing together academic experts, regional development stakeholders, civil society representatives and international partners, the event will address key topics such as the valorisation of mining heritage, the regeneration of former mining sites in the context of the Just Transition, and the transformation of former industrial areas into new opportunities for local communities.
The programme will also highlight practical experiences from the regeneration of Petrila Mine and the cultural and natural heritage of Las Médulas (Spain), encouraging the exchange of knowledge and good practices across European mining regions.
An open discussion session will provide participants with the opportunity to engage with speakers, exchange perspectives and explore how heritage-based innovation can contribute to a more sustainable future for former mining regions.
