Hackathon
Launch of the Online Phase of the HI EURECA PRO Hackathon on Industrial Heritage
25 May 2026 | Silesian University of Technology
Today marks the official launch of the online preparatory phase of the HI‑EURECA‑PRO Hackathon on Industrial Heritage, an international initiative focused on heritage-based innovation and sustainable development.
The opening session introduced participants to the objectives and structure of the hackathon, highlighting its strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration and real-world problem solving in post-industrial contexts.
As part of the online phase, participants will complete a dedicated course on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This course equips students with essential knowledge of lifecycle thinking and sustainability evaluation, based on the ISO framework for LCA. Through a series of interactive modules, participants will gain both theoretical and practical insights, preparing them for the analytical and design challenges ahead.
During this preparatory stage, students will:
- complete the LCA e-learning programme,
- work in small international teams (2–3 participants),
- select and analyse scientific case studies related to industrial heritage and its transformation,
- prepare a short group presentation to be delivered during the final stage of the hackathon.
The on-site part of the hackathon, which will take place from 8 to 12 June at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland, will focus on the revitalisation and adaptive reuse of post-industrial buildings. Participants will work intensively on developing innovative solutions addressing sustainability, circularity, and responsible resource use in industrial heritage contexts.
The event brings together students and experts from across Europe, fostering international cooperation and supporting the goals of the EURECA-PRO alliance in promoting responsible consumption, production, and sustainable regional development.
