Deliverable D12.1 Inventory on Knowledge Valorisation in Widening Countries
Summary of Deliverable D12.1 Inventory on Knowledge Valorisation in Widening Countries
This deliverable presents the first comprehensive inventory of knowledge and technology transfer (KTT) practices in the three widening countries of the HI-EURECA-PRO Alliance: Poland, Greece, and Romania. Focusing on the Silesian University of Technology, the Technical University of Crete, and the University of Petroșani, the study assesses the role and maturity of Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) in connecting academia, industry, and society, with particular attention to heritage valorisation.
The analysis combines semi-structured interviews and questionnaires with academic staff, researchers, and students, providing insight into organisational structures, intellectual property management, spin-off creation, training initiatives, and collaboration with external stakeholders. Findings reveal that while each university has taken important steps to establish or strengthen TTOs, significant gaps remain in heritage-specific valorisation, communication, and capacity building. For example, SUT benefits from experienced innovation brokers but lacks heritage integration, TUC is advancing in spin-offs and cultural heritage projects but faces awareness challenges, while UP has only an emerging TTO and limited resources.
The report identifies opportunities to enhance KTT by promoting targeted training, expanding administrative tools, increasing awareness of societal impact, and leveraging EU partnerships. Strengthening these capacities will enable universities in widening regions to integrate heritage into sustainable innovation ecosystems, bridge academic knowledge with real-world applications, and contribute more effectively to Europe’s green and digital transitions.
